Ciastel de Tor
In about 1230, servants of the bishops of Brixen/Bressanone built a standalone residential tower with three floors. It was transformed into a castle over the centuries and bought by farmers as a place to live at the beginning of the 19th century. For over 20 years now, the historical building has been home to the Museum Ladin, which breathes new life into the original rooms.
Museum of the Ladin people
The MusLa explores the past and present of the people living in the five Ladin valleys of the Dolomites – Val Badia, Val Gardena, Val di Fassa, Livinallongo and Ampezzo. Each of the valleys has its own variant of the Ladin language along with its distinct customs and traditions.
Their rich and diverse culture is brought to life through examples of events and developments that have significantly shaped their community. Visitors are taken on a journey through time that brings them all the way back to the present day. Themes like tradition, culture, geography, craft, art and music intertwine with tourism, the economy and the education system, offering an in-depth insight into the past and present of the Ladin people.

- Accessibility
We are pleased to welcome people with disabilities to our museum sites. We’ve worked hard on accessibility to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. As the Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor in St. Martin/San Martino is a medieval castle, we’re afraid that wheelchair users are only able to visit specific rooms on the ground floor. The temporary exhibition in the new building is fully accessible.
- No pets permitted
Unfortunately, we do not allow dogs or other pets to enter the castle due to the nature of our artefacts and out of respect for other visitors. However, pets are welcome in our outdoor spaces and in the new building (café, temporary exhibition). Thank you for your understanding. We’re looking forward to welcoming you to our museum soon.

The Ladin community in the past and present
Culture is brought to life before your eyes! Fascinating insights into Ladin culture are on offer in the original rooms, parlours and exhibition halls inside the medieval castle. The history of the Ladin people living in the Dolomites is brought to life through dioramas, shadow plays, talking portraits, interactive animations and models.

Exciting events and interesting guided tours are a regular occurrence at the Ciastel de Tor and Ursus ladinicus sites and in the local area. Visitors can learn all about the region’s history and culture in fun and enriching ways.
With guided excursions and walks on offer, the MusLa gives people a chance to explore and experience nature mindfully. We draw links to topical issues through a wide range of special initiatives, guided tours and temporary exhibitions.
You can find the Panorama Café in our modern new building. Stop for a break and reflect on what you’ve learnt about the fascinating history of Ladin culture as you admire the stunning view of the Dolomites. Treat yourself to a cup of coffee, a bite to eat or a glass of wine right at the heart of the wonderful world of Ladinia.

The café is currently open from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10:00 and 14:00. We look forward to your visit!
The Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor and the Museum Ladin Ursus ladinicus have a museum shop, where visitors can buy books relating to the museum collections, souvenirs and traditional handmade items from the local area.
