Lois Irsara – vernacŭlus – recordanzes ladines

17/04/2024 – 24/04/2024
Palazzo Benzon Foscolo, Venezia
Curator: Lisa Kostner e Katharina Moling

The Ladin Institute, the Museum Ladin and the Lois Irsara Archive present an exhibition in Venice dedicated to the Ladin artist Lois Irsara.

Paintings, watercolours and works on paper by Lois Irsara (Cialaruns de Badia, 1923 – 2014) are the focus of the exhibition “vernacŭlus – recordanzes ladines” at Palazzo Benzon Foscolo in the Sestiere di San Marco in Venice. The exhibition on the painter of Ladin origins is jointly organised by the Ladin Institute in collaboration with the Museum Ladin and the Lois Irsara Archive and curated by Lisa Kostner, coordinator of the Foundation and Katharina Moling, director of the Museum Ladin. It will be on display from today until 24 April, coinciding with the opening of the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia.

“Showing Lois Irsara’s work today does not only mean remembering the collective memory of the Ladin landscape and culture, but also claiming the value of the vernacular and the ability to be rooted in a tradition from a contemporary perspective,” explain Kostner and Moling. “In a world that runs progressively faster, it seems necessary to learn from the serene vision of an artist who contemplated and admired the nature and people of his origin”.
